It wouldn’t be the weekend without brunch and it wouldn’t be Labor Day weekend without the Monty Alexander Jazz Festival—and you can find both at Hunter’s Tavern on Sunday, September 1st.

The annual Jazz Brunch returns this year to the Hunter’s Tavern Terrace with musicians Randy Napoleon and Dan Wilson, who will also perform during the Festival’s free Community Concert at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 31st, at the Avalon Theatre.

Rooted in jazz tradition, Napoleon is widely-known as a forward-thinking musician and one of the most sought-after guitarists in New York. In addition to leading his own trios and other small combos, Napoleon tours with legendary singer/pianist Freddy Cole. Guitarist George Benson calls him “sensational.”

From a young age, Wilson knew he wanted to pursue a career in music. Though his style is jazz-focused, it certainly draws influence from a wide variety of genres. He’s been touring nationally and internationally with three-time Grammy nominated jazz organ legend, Joey DeFrancesco. He describes the human connection between the performer and audience that’s created during a live show as “second to none.”

With two seatings, at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the Jazz Brunch boasts impeccably crafted dishes, from Crab Cake Benedict and Petite Filet & Eggs to Soft Shell Crab Salad and Grit Bowl—all main selections on the prix fixe menu that includes three courses, plus a complimentary glass of champagne for $35 per person.

For at least five years, the Tidewater Inn (where Hunter’s Tavern is located) has hosted this popular event. Though the exact date of the initial partnership between Jazz on the Chesapeake and the downtown Easton landmark is unknown, it’s clear it was a felicitous pairing that garnered immediate interest—and not only with jazz aficionados!

“As a historic property, jazz music seems to be a great fit and our hotel and restaurant guests thoroughly enjoy this style,” says Carrie Simmons, Director of Marketing at the Tidewater Inn.

But the partnership wasn’t solely based on the brunch’s early success. For the Tidewater, involvement in local events has always been an important part of its outreach in supporting the community, driving awareness to and encouraging business in downtown Easton.

“We are lucky to have the opportunity to have countless local events and festivals in Easton and the surrounding towns,” Simmons adds.
